Over the course of my career as an editor, I have been a part of many changes and shifts throughout the industry. In the beginning, the art of editing film and video took a great deal of hardware, support, and time. Over the past few years though, it has begun to evolve so quickly that an editor’s ability to evolve with it has become more and more vital.

Hardware became more economical, and the need for a structure around me to support my art has changed. Now — my ability to work for a myriad of clients, in any number of places, on a variety of different projects is very much in my own hands …

And it is variety that inspires me. So I have made the jump to the freedom of freelance.

As a freelance editor, I can now provide my talent to clients in a way that works both for them — and me. I can also engage in a level of variety that keeps me inspired with a greater sense of agility. I have always pushed myself to learn new approaches to the craft — and to become well-versed in the multiple languages of documentary, comedy, commercial, music-driven, and long-form editorial. To me: the multilingual approach keeps every project I work on fresh. And keeps me excited. I continue to grow, and provide a unique perspective to every new project I take on.

So — being in business for myself enables me to be stronger for my clients. And to seek-out the kind of diversity that keeps me engaged. It’s a brand-new world in 2015, and one that I am very enthusiastic about diving into.

I’ll see you on-set, at your place, or anywhere else your next project takes us …
